Point Pleasant Park Fall 2008 Forest Restoration Work
HRM Urban Forestry staff, forest contractors, and archaeologists will be working in the park in late November and December to complete the Fall 2008 Tree Planting Project.
30,000 Acadian Forest trees and 1000 Acadian Forest shrub seedlings will be planted in selected areas of the park.
South-facing slopes will receive the majority of the tree seedlings with some tree and shrub seedlings being planted in wet areas of the park.
This fall's planting list includes:
3000 Sugar Maple (Acer saccharum)
3000 Yellow Birch (Betula alleghaniensis)
1000 Buttonbush (Cephalanthus occidentalis)
3000 Black Ash (Fraxinus pennsylvanica)
2000 Butternut (Juglans cinerea)
2000 Ironwood (Ostrya virginiana)
3000 Balsam Poplar (Populus balsamifera)
3000 Red Oak (Quercus rubra)
2000 Black Willow (Salix nigra)
3000 Eastern White Cedar (Thuja occidentalis)
3000 Basswood (Tilia americana)
3000 White Elm (Ulmus americana)
Urban Forestry staff will also be planting 60 larger-sized trees along roadways in various parts of the park. Archaeological consulting staff will be present to monitor the excavation needed to plant these trees.
