Things To Know
Fortifications Stabilization Project

Update:  Fortification Stabilization Work -  Cambridge Battery, Fort Ogilvie, and Northwest Arm Battery at Point Pleasant Park will be closed to the public as construction is underway to stabilize these structures. HRM's contractor has fenced these sites and work has begun.

Fortification stabilization work will also require dump trucks to deliver earth to the forts beginning Monday, October 25 for the duration of the week, weather pending. To help ensure public safety, the Tower Road parking lot, the adjoining upper entrance to Point Pleasant Park, and parts of some roads (Lodge Road, Cambridge Drive, and Ogilvie Road) may be closed temporarily during dump truck movement.

Alternate entrances are located along Point Pleasant Drive, Francklyn Street, and Chain Rock Drive.

Fortifications Stabilization Project

Starting in October 2010, Cambridge Battery, Fort Ogilvie, and Northwest Arm Battery will be under construction in order to stabilize these historic structures.

Work will include:

  • heritage recording;
  • repointing of selected stone and/or brick walls;
  • concrete repairs;
  • entombment of unstable areas;
  • landscape improvements;
  • installation of cannons.

Work sites will be closed to the public at times.  Heavy equipment may also be present during some phases of the work.

We ask that park users take care and caution when passing by work areas.  In the interest of safety, dog owners are asked to practice responsible pet ownership and ensure that dogs are leashed near work areas.

This infrastructure renewal project has been made possible by the generous assistance of the Canada-Nova Scotia Infrastructure Program.
